Participation in a User Study in the frame of the TRUSTID Project
Description
We would like to invite you to participate to the Third Proof of Concept Evaluation Study of TRUSTID. TRUSTID stands for "Intelligent and Continuous Online Student Identity Management for Improving Security and Trust in European Higher Education Institutions" and is part of the actions of Erasmus+ 2020 under the Call "Strategic Partnerships in Response to the COVID-19 Situation: Partnerships for Digital Education Readiness in the field of Higher Education (KA226)".
The user survey will take place in the following weeks via two sessions.
The first session involves a few minutes of interaction with a system for entering answers to questions. For the first session, you need to have a computer that is connected to the internet.
In the second session of the user survey, which will be conducted via a Zoom meeting, you will first be asked to download and install the TRUSTID application (as a Windows or MacOS application) on your computer. You will then follow simple steps that will result in the creation of computer-based user identification models, which will be based on images of your face and your audio signals of your voice, and/or your typing rhythm on the computer keyboard. In addition, you will be requested to download and install a smartphone application on your smartphone, which will enable you to store your models (face, voice, hand-writing), and approve or deny sharing these models with the TRUSTID solution. At the end you will participate in an online mock examination.
To participate in the survey, you must have a computer and a Web camera connected to your computer.
During the studies, we intend to collect the following data for the purpose of the project:
User Interaction, Biometric and Computing Device Data- Usage data: i) timed events of user interaction, i.e., time to enroll in the system (seconds); ii) number of attempts to enroll (ordinal); iii) time to verify (seconds).
- Face data: This includes video streams of the participants’ face data, which will be gathered through the participants’ web camera. The captured images are processed and converted to a face model, which is mathematical representation of the user’s face. No raw images are stored on the server.
- Voice data: This includes voice stream signals of the participants, which will be gathered through the participants’ computer microphone. The captured voice stream signals are processed and converted to a voice model, which is mathematical representation of the user’s voice. No raw voice streams are stored on the server.
- Computer monitoring data: This includes monitoring and identifying whether specific processes run on the participants’ computing devices, i.e., communication tools (e.g., Skype), collaboration tools (e.g., TeamViewer), etc., as well as the public IP address of the participant’s device.
- Interaction data: This includes data that relates to the user’s typing rhythm on the computer keyboard.
A few weeks before the survey, you will receive specific instructions by email about the procedure to follow for the online survey, the link to ZOOM and the link where you can install the software on Windows or MacOs machines.
If you are interested to participate in the user study, please subscribe to the user study by filling in your full name and email address below. Your full name and email will be used only for communication and scheduling of your participation in the user study.

We will also comply with the relevant regulation, principles, and legislation of the European Commission and particularly those involving the participation of adults in user studies (https://ec.europa.eu/programmes/horizon2020/en/h2020-section/ethics). The participants will be informed, and their consent will be required for participation. Data will be confidential and processed and stored securely during the course of the project. At the end of the project, all data will be permanently deleted from the project’s database. Only researchers of the project will have access to the data, which will be used for research purposes only.
Leaving the User Study and Removing your Data
Participants can decide to leave the user study at any time. In case a participant would like to leave the user study, all the relevant data captured up to that point will be permanently deleted from the data set of research team. In case you would like your data to be removed, please send an email to
unsubscribe_poc@trustid-project.eu and then all your data will be permanently deleted from the project’s database.
